PG Social app screen listing local events in Prince George, BC.

Prince George, BC does not have a single place to find out what’s on. The information lives in a dozen Facebook groups, on photocopied flyers in coffee shops, in the back pages of the local paper, on organizers’ own websites, in Reddit threads, and on Discord servers. If you do not already know where to look, you do not know.

PG Social is that single place. A free resource for the city, built because the alternative was watching the town’s events scene keep fading into private chats and stale bulletin boards. The app pulls everything into one feed, lets organizers post directly, and does not charge anyone for any of it.

What it is

A mobile-first community board. Organizers post events. Residents browse. That’s the whole thing. The scope is deliberately small because the problem is not “we need more features”, it is “we need the one feature to actually exist.”

Why I built it

I have lived in Prince George since 2019 and have always found it hard to keep track of what’s going on in the city. I saw newcomers to the city posting how they can’t find anything to do in the city. It became a running joke among my friends that if you want to find out what’s going on in the city, you have to check 10 different places.

Where the project is now

Live. Free. Somewhere around 100 to 200 people open it every day, which is enough. The goal was never a venture outcome. The goal was: if someone new moves to town and asks how to find out what’s on, there is an answer.

Also, I wanted to build my own projects and this problem was close to home. I decided to build it and see what happens. A good first project.
